The fat smash diet is separated into four phases

by Maggie Henderson

Dr. Ian Smith created a television show for VH1 called Celebrity Fit Club, in which celebrities competed to lose weight, and along with the show created a diet called the fat smash diet.

The diet relies on improving eating and exercise habits.

Ian Smith's resume prior to creating the fat smash diet is impressive. He's Harvard educated, consults on health for a number of television shows, and is on the board for the American Council on Exercise.

Celebrity Fit Club, the show he created and for which he served as head judge, was based on the fat smash diet.

There are four phases within the fat smash diet:

1 detox: During this nine day phase of the fat smash diet people purge their bodies and minds of bad things, while losing up to six pounds.

Amongst other weird habits to get into during this phase, Smith suggests walking around in a bathing suit and weighing yourself in front of a mirror.

2 foundation: Some foods removed during detox are reintegrated during this three week phase in the smash diet.

This is all based on controlling portions, such as eating 3 ounces of meat.

3 construction: This lasts for four weeks on the fat smash diet, during which the person develops a healthy eating plan that includes foods they like. These foods can include desserts, pasta, bread, and many other foods restricted another types of diets such as the Atkins diet.

In the fat smash diet moderation is the key.

Dr. Smith refers to the work done in the other three phases as the Temple, which must be maintained with continued diligence in moderation achieved through self-control.

The fat smash diet isn't all good or all bad. The initial 6 to 10 pound weight loss is really due to severe calorie cutting which can be dangerous.

Fat smash diet has both good and bad aspects. The weight lost in phase one is really due to starvations, which isn't good.

In addition the nine day detox is considered unhealthy by many health experts.

However the lessons of moderation and exercise proposed by the fat smash diet are good ones.
